Sporting GOODS
Living as a student athlete is one of the most difficult, but also the best, things a high school student could choose to do. Athleticism requires dedication and hard work. Both of which are used for school, however, it just gets difficult as a student athlete to keep giving it your all in both school and sports.
Dedicating yourself to a sport takes away from time you could be studying, doing homework or on game days, sleeping and getting a good night’s rest before a test. It’s hard to balance your time between school, sports, sleep, eating, and for some: work. I’ve been trying to get a job for months now but no one is going to hire someone that can only work on Sundays. Finding a student with a great GPA, eight hours of sleep, in a sport, and who works is a rare commodity not often found in high schools.
But why do we do it to ourselves? The love of the game can’t be that strong, can it? For some, it’s just that. We’ve been athletes all our lives. Since I was four years old I’ve been swinging a softball bat. Since I was 10 years old I’ve been throwing a basketball at a hoop. We love it. It’s all we’ve ever known. Whenever life is rough, just play the sport you love, it’s our medicine. It teaches teamwork. It teaches people how to push themselves to limits they’ve never reached before. We get familiar with a feeling of loss and we become humble when we become victors. It is by the far the easiest way to teach young people how to be successful.
