With Talaat Captan Pan Am Experience: Come relive a slice of airline history
Talaat Captan’s Air Hollywood studio doesn’t just provide airline sets for the purpose of film production, they also provide the Pan Am experience every second Saturday night at 6 pm. The tickets ranging from $475 to $875 are sold in pairs and are inclusive of all the dining and entertainment services. The Talaat Captan Pan Am Experience takes place onboard a Pan Am 747 airplane and is inclusive of a four-hour dinner experience, classic movie screening, and a fashion show.
The event begins when the guests arrive at the studio which looks like an airplane terminal. The terminal has ticketing counters of competitor airlines and passengers are checked-in at Pan Am desk. They get their papers boarding passes with their names on it and all the details of the environs are completely period-accurate.
The guests are then made to spend some time relaxing in the lounge area where they are served complimentary drinks. The setting is strongly reminiscent of the late ’60s and the early ’70s and the co-founders Talaat Captan and Anthony Toth deserve kudos for putting up such an impeccably detailed event!
Once on the plane, the 56 guests are made to sit in three different sections of the plane (all priced differently) and are greeted by the captains and 14 female flight attendants dressed in vintage garb. The experience begins with a welcome video featuring Mr. Toth himself, followed by safety briefings and every other in-flight norm is carried out to perfection, to ensure that the customers have the most authentic and time-accurate experience possible.
A lot of attention is paid to the details to replicate the experience of flying Pan Am from back in the day. The props are so real that one gets a surreal feeling of traveling back in time, even when the flight doesn’t even take off! Minute details like prop cigarettes, vintage magazines, James bond movies, Frank Sinatra’s music, and cocktails like Harvey Wellbangers add to the ambiance and ensure that the Talaat Captan Pan Am Experience is one of a kind when it comes to re-creating flying nostalgia.
Since this is a four-course dining experience, the food is expected to be impeccable and the dining sure doesn’t disappoint. The menu is an exact replica of the Pan Am menus of the late ’60s and the early ’70s and keeping the tradition of honoring the glorious times gone by the stewardesses carve the meat in front of the customers.
It is a welcome departure from pre-packaged airplane meals and the entire experience is soaked in nostalgia. Things get so nostalgic that some old-timers can’t stop crying during this impeccable one-of-a-kind dining event, which promises the entire flying experience, from start to finish. After dinner, comes the dessert cart and wine and cheese course. Here again, it is the same as would have been served in the ’60s on a Pam Am airplane! Nothing feels out of place, the attention for detail is surreal, and one gets the feeling of actually traveling back in time.
The props feel real and the actors feel real as well. Over the years the actors have become characters and they play their parts impeccably well. They have been trained by real Pan Am employees and it reflects in the way they serve the customers and conduct themselves. To make it an immersive and interactive experience, trivia games are played where the passengers get more involved in the experience. It often so happens that the flight attendants end up making friends with the passengers at the end of the event.
Another key highlight of the Talaat Captan Pan Am experience is the fashion show which happens throughout the four-hour event. In this event, Pan Am uniforms from the late 1950s to 1991 are modeled by the flight attendants and it is impeccable from start to finish. There’s enough bang for the buck and enough entertainment to make you yearn for the experience again! It is perfect for people who crave for fine dining and esoteric adventures. The Talaat Captan Pan Am experience is unlike anything you may have ever seen or experienced before and is your best bet to relive a slice of airline history.
