The 10 days from Yom Ha’Shoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) — Yom Ha’Zikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day) together with Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day).

“Todah Abba”

— Thank you Dad.

A simple enough phrase that struck me as I was walking around Har Herzl, Israel’s military cemetery. It was painted on a stone set on top of the grave of a 24-year-old man who was killed in the Yom Kippur war.

These words are the essence of the ten days from Yom Ha’Shoah to Yom Ha’Atzmaut — which have come to be called the Ten Days of Thanks. The uniqueness of the Jewish people is revealed in these days of observance. …

An Interview With Lead Developer Snir Sharristh

Tell me a little bit about yourself?

I am Snir Sharristh, born and raised in JLM. I am finishing up my 4th year at Hebrew University for Math and Computer Science.

How did you get involved with Made in JLM?

Roy Munin was an officer where I was in the army so when I saw him at a hackathon at Hebrew university we recognized each other and started talking. He told me about Side Project Night and invited me to join next time.

So you went to side project night and created the job board, how did that idea come about?

Well, honestly it was the only open project. Other projects already had teams and I wanted to do this more on my own, so I went for it and tried it out. There…

February 7th, 19-year-old Ori Ansbacher, a girl in National Service, was brutally murdered by a Palestinian terrorist. May her memory be blessed.

Ori Ansbacher

Dear Ori,

I wish I could be talking to you in a different situation.

I imagine a world where we met, and it doesn’t seem so far away. I chose to do Sherut Leumi, National Service, and make Jerusalem my home, just like you did Ori. We both wanted to serve our country this year.

I am thinking about the times our paths must have crossed, the events we surely attended together, the busses we may have traveled together. I think maybe it would have taken some time, but I could have heard your laugh instead of hearing about it on the news. And maybe that’s why I can’t stop thinking about you.

The more I hear about you Ori, the more I wish I could have been given the chance to be your friend.

Everyone…

Meet Racheli White, a 19-year-old from Golders Green, London.

Were you always interested in Computer Science?

When I was 12 years old I had an interest in programming, I signed up for some short courses to see what this computer world was offering, but nothing super concrete and official. In high school, I signed up for a computer elective which really didn't turn out to be what I expected. Afterward, I took a gap year and went to seminary in Machon Raya in Jerusalem. During my gap year, I looked into doing an apprenticeship in software development, as that combines work and study.

I eventually decided to sign up…

Listening to the professors and doctoral students explain what they do with databases, NLS (Natural Language Processing) technology and difficulties in the research, biological research and its implications for technological development, and so much more, left us excited about what may be in store for us later in life.

I went from a feeling of over the moon happiness to a feeling of deep misery. What did I do next?

I made a 30-day countdown on the wall at my office leading to my mother and sister arriving in Israel. I hadn’t seen them in close to a year and a half. Each day 30, 29, 28, with ever-increasing excitement I would take down a post-it and do a small dance.

My mother and I are very close. We have a very special relationship and I am immensely lucky to have that with her. I consider her like a best friend. Being 6000 miles away from her during such a crucial time in my life is heartwrenching.

She arrived in…

A program for teachers to bring their EdTech ideas to fruition.

Last night I was invited to the “graduation” of the first cohort of teachers for the EdStart program. All the teachers were there to present their newly finished product to school representatives, technology experts, and VCs.

Me and Nimrod next to the presentation of Labrador

Nimrod Barkai, one of the teacher participants in the program, invented the idea, Labrador.

Labrador is a science lab applications for teachers and students. The teacher gives the students a 4-digit code to enter the experiment for the class. It is an interactive app with live updates of the data on the teacher's main board’s graph. …
