The difference in suicide rates between Whites and Blacks does indeed suggest that the *perception* of privilege loss is the driving factor. It could be argued that this means White pain is just “in their head”. However, ALL identities are in our heads. And when any strong identity is ripped away — by systemic oppression or economic oppression — that is a very dangerous situation indeed. Just as dangerous for a person’s life as the threat of actual violence. If only physical violence was worthy of being called a threat, then privileged White feminist women would have to admit that they face zero oppression from the world because they only face the psychological oppression of gas-lighting and sexual objectification — and these are just in their heads, right?
