I think he is trying to get through to all the men who can’t see why “human being” should be the noun used in all the places you write about what it means to be a “man”. I aspire to live up to the virtues you list — they are a damn good start if one is looking for what kind of person to be. But person, not man. I believe it is a good time to reshape our culture; and, vocabulary — stupid or not that it matters — does matter. It can be done, IMO, without permitting this weird sense so many people seem to have of “losing what it means to be a man” or “giving in to women” to be part of it all. Neither of those ideas need to be coherent if we don’t want them to be, and to talk as if they are is to miss the point, I think.
