So, about our name…
Paul McDonald

I want to say that the outrage around Bodega surprises me, but it doesn’t. What it is, however, is dismaying. To attribute such ill intent to your venture, such as you wanting to make corner stores dissapear off the face of the Earth, as if driven by some racist or bigoted feelings, is astonishing. I don’t know you, but I assume you guys started this all thing off with a “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if…..” kind of conversation and chased after your vision. You probably even called it Bodega because you thought it was a sort of homage to the stores that many people love to frequent.

I am Hispanic. I am an immigrant in this country. And I don’t find any fault with your venture. People are right to claim that bodegas have benefits other than just selling you stuff — they are filled with neighborhood characters, good people, and you can leave one with stories for days. Your box won’t have that. And that’s OK! Both can co-exist in the same world.

People protesting your Bodega box fail to realize the power of their own behavior & desires: they get to choose where they want to shop and whose business they want to support. If they don’t want to engage with your Bodega box, so be it. But to just attack you, and makes claims that what you and your partner are doing is based on some warped world view, is just plain rude and antithetic to the American spirit.

Don’t let the bastards get you down.
