There are 100 days left in 2019.
I have Jenna Britton to thank for this information. She has a fantastic Sunday night newsletter where she reflects on this idea. I also confirmed with Alexa this morning before I listened to Bach for my shower.
It is the first day of autumn today and my mind has been focused on what I need to do in this season. The cooler weather leads to deep rest and sweaters. Autumn is for tying up loose ends and getting ready for the winter season.
When I read there are 100 days my mind went immediately to:
I can give myself a 100 day challenge! That will be the perfect way to celebrate!

Why I Love A Challenge
My pledge to write a story a day in September and what I hope to gain
The Storyaday challenge I am currently in the middle of is about the writing within a community for me.
If I create a 100 day challenge for myself it would have to have an impact on my life in some positive way or why would I do it?
In my morning pages today I was reflecting about the many challenges I impose on myself. Over the past 4 years I have moved from one challenge to another mostly in the realm of writing. I have participated in daily blogging challenges, daily story challenges, and the mother of all challenges — NANOWRIMO.
After reflecting this morning in my morning pages, it isn’t about the challenge — it is about control.
A challenge allows my brain to function within a structure.
I have had many obstacles flung in my path over the last 4 years that I feel I have not had any control over — only the management afterwards. A self imposed challenge allows me to feel I have control over something.
I know a woman who gives herself 40 day challenges. Sometimes it is about fitness or diet. Other times it is pertaining to a hobby or new skill she wants to acquire. I loved this idea when I heard it but the 40 days didn’t resonate with me. She liked the idea of 40 days as it equates to Lent for her.
Most of my challenges have been monthly challenges that have centered around writing.
I did challenge myself to run every day in the summer for the purpose to run 13 miles in one running session. I fulfilled this promise to myself BUT once I achieved the goal the allure was gone and I stopped. I used to be the person that ran 80 miles a week. I wanted to prove to myself I could still run a decent chunk of miles and then I was done with the daily challenge.
100 days is a lot of time. It is the entire autumn season plus a few days.
Julia Cameron says, “Large changes occur in tiny increments.”
To gain some clarity I pulled a card with the intention:“What does my soul need to focus on for the next 100 days?”
The Empress card is about flourishing and growth. These next 100 days should be about creativity, love, and kindness. Abundance is a focus. I have everything I need to move forward. I also need to connect with nature and loved ones and embrace the strong and powerful energy I have within.
Do I Need A Large Change?
This is the question to myself. I already write every day. Do I need to add one more activity?
I could log an important word every day for 100 days.
I could draw a doodle on a sticky note and put them up in my office.
I could do an act of kindness every day.
I could do an act of self care for myself every day.
I could learn about a different tarot card every day and then card spreads for the rest of the days.
I could meditate every day for 10 minutes.
Maybe what I need is to subtract something.
I have my call with my creativity group today so maybe I will gain some insight. If you have a suggestion for me please leave it in the comments! I welcome fresh insight.
What challenges have you participated in that made an impact on your life?
My soft goal for now is the mediation. I believe that is an act that would benefit me greatly moving forward and will help me take advantage of the rejuvenation properties of the autumnal season.

UPDATE: After careful consideration the choice that felt right is to do one yoga pose everyday. This is how I started my yoga practice which led to teaching and keeping myself injury free as an ultra runner. I need to get back. If I do more than one pose then that is icing!
