Weekend Coffee Share 3

A cup of coffee and a conversation

Aug 3 · 4 min read

First, I will say I am so glad August is here and July is OVER. Thank you for meeting with me for coffee today. I have been looking forward to our time all week. I am a bit tired today, so let’s sit and lounge in the backyard under the trees. My energy levels have been low and I am hoping to get some pep back.

I am drinking my regular dark black coffee. What would you like in addition to ice water?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I went back to work this week for 2.5 days. I was able to teach my Better Conversations class on Monday and it was so much fun! I watched people having life-giving conversation and get to know each other in a low-risk environment. The occasion was our literacy academy for grades 5–8 and it was an enlightening workshop.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I published some poems and short stories on Medium and they are doing well! There were many reads and highlights and it made me happy that people are enjoying them.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I met some wonderful people I will be working with this school year. It is going to be a dynamic partnership! I was happy to give away two large stacks of books to a couple of my new teachers for their classroom libraries. I love being the Book Fairy. In fact, when we are done with our cups lets go in and see if we can find some books for you to take home with you.

If we were having coffee I would tell you I ran this week, but not as much due to the work schedule. I ran at a park I used to run all the time and that was comforting. I also forgot how much harder trails are! I was able to drop off several titles in the Free Little Library at the park too. The pickings were thin so hopefully someone grabbed them and will enjoy reading them. Do you have any little libraries near you? There are several on the running trail but it isn’t a good spot for me to put books in or take them out.

If we were having coffee I would tell you my writing practice continued every morning. I also had a call with a writing mentor and that was an enlightening conversation as well. I was going to sign up for a class of generative writing for Saturday but the way the week was going I thought it best not to. I went to Meg Pokrass’ site and read some of her flash fiction and followed several of her writing prompts. I finished another notebook so that is a good thing as well! I have new llama notebooks to start so I am thrilled.

If we were having coffee I would tell you I have not been listening to as many podcasts lately. Some have not been that interesting but I also have not been in the car as much. Starting next week, I should be more on a regular work schedule so I will likely listen to more. If you have any suggestions for great ones I am always open!

If we were having coffee I would tell you I revised some stories this week. I submitted a couple so we will see what happens. I am revisiting old lessons and feedback.

If we were having coffee I would tell you in celebration of the new school year and two new schools I cleaned out my closet. In the past, I have worn many dresses and tall heels. They are gone now. I am moving onto to a more casual style now that I am back in elementary. It was good to purge. I will continue throwing out items I do not love or skip over when getting dressed in the morning.

Happy Weekend! I think it is time for a draft to be written and then a nap to be taken!
