Join me for a cup of coffee and some conversation
Tomorrow is the first day of fall which seems unusual to me because it is the 23rd rather than the 21st. I thought the calendar was wrong and Googled it three times.
I listened to a speaker the other day that was referring to fall as the time for deep rest and renewal. It is also the time to tie up loose ends before the winter season. This idea resonated with me and I am holding onto it. The idea has come up the last couple of days in my morning pages.
I will have my normal coffee today but also have some cider if you like today to celebrate the season. A random memory pops up for me of Snapple. They used to have a spiced cider that I would warm up and drink many years ago. It is a nice memory as I smell the apple and cinnamon.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures that come with the fall season. I like hot weather in the summer but welcome the change. I had to drive our Jeep to work this week and it was HOT on the way home — NO AC. I haven’t run for several weeks and would welcome a walk and run with a little bundling necessary.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I went for a rejuvenating walk on Tuesday at the Dunes. I walked along trail 9 and it was so quiet. I heard a woodpecker. My footsteps were soft on the sand and my breathing was easy.
If we were having coffee I would tell I had a fantastic coaching meeting this week. It was magical and will make a difference for students. I was able to share a bit of it while I was at a training on Thursday. It is training I always look forward to because of the people. I always love to go to training that does not make me feel like I am wasting my time.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I had a Zoom call with my 2 creative groups this week. One was Monday but I had to cut it short because I had a meeting. I was sad to leave. Tuesday night was my Storyaday call and we had a lot of laughing over me making another writer show her llama stuffed animals. We have a whole inside joke about Llama Tuesday.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I was on a podcast! STOP WRITING ALONE by Nicole Rivera’s The Artist’s Way Week 4–6 episode. I am in a creative group with her and she has been checking in with her listeners about the program.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I connected my 2 creative groups with a llama. I have the llama joke with the Storyaday group and now for week 7 tasks I was supposed to treat myself to something for my own self care and I ordered a plush llama and cannot wait for him to arrive. He was supposed to come in the mail yesterday but he is delayed.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I listened to Johann Hari’s Ted Talk about depression and anxiety. It was interesting and a completely different take on the issues. I have struggled with depression almost my entire life even though it didn’t have that label til I was an adult. He also wrote a book which I have requested at the library.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I treated myself to some Patron tequila this week with lime and it is DELICIOUS! It has been years since I have had some — not sure why really. It was delightful at the end of a busy but productive week. It is a simple thing but so wonderful.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I was accepted into a writing cooperative group. I am hoping this will give me the support I need to up level in my writing. There is a small group that will have regular critique that have a similar mindset about the process and I am excited to get started. We were supposed to start this weekend but that seems to be a little delayed. I am excited for this new opportunity I said Yes to.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I spent most of yesterday at a middle school cross country meet. I read and wrote and chatted with friends but SHOULD have worn my workout clothes and went for my own run. I had underestimated the time I would be spending there.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I have connected with a creative friend more often over the last couple of days and she has been inspiring to me! She encouraged me to push out an idea and you can read about it here.
If we were having coffee I would ask you what your favorite fall activity is. Next weekend I am going to a festival that I am looking forward to. The weekend after that the plan is to go to the apple orchard. Do you have rituals you enjoy in autumn?
Until next week! Happy Sunday!
