Trauma Is Not You

It is an experience. It is a thorn.

Just as if someone walked up to you and put a sliver in your arm, you could stare at it, be shocked, be hurt … you could talk about it, complain about it, build a shelter around it, not let anyone else touch it.

You could spend so much time focusing on it and noticing it that you can’t even enjoy your life.

You could quit picking up thing with that hand as it might hurt your arm.

You could anticipate all the ways you can’t do anything because it’s going to hurt — even before it hurts!

You can prepare your future to protect that arm and make sure it doesn’t get “bumped”.

You can become super sensitive to your surroundings to make sure that you won’t be re-injured.

You could talk to your friends about the pain, the disbelief, the anger, the future with this stuck in your arm.

You could go to the doctor and therapist to get medicine, synthetic drugs and “comfort” from those that are empathetic to your sliver, have seen it before, have helped before.

You could quit having relationships as that person might bump that painful arm.

You could quit moving, riding, dancing, hiking, experiencing the things you used to love… the pain might get worse.

In fact it is sure to get worse.

You focus on how bad it will be.

You prepare your future.

You plan ahead very carefully to be sure that you are protecting this pain that someone else did to you.

Then you have someone to blame.

You’ll teach them a lesson.

The lesson that when they hurt you… you hurt… maybe forever.

What would it be like to just pull that sliver out. A little pain for a teeny tiny amount of time?

A little pain that you don’t even notice the rest of your life.

Once it is gone.

Once it no longer hurts.

Once it is removed.

You CAN change your focus.

Just as if someone walked up to you and put a sliver in your arm. You pull it out… remove the thorn… go back to being you.

You are not your experiences. You are not the thorn. You are not the trauma.

Chose freedom!

I can’t wait to hear about your freedom!

I can’t wait to hear how much better you are performing!
