Thank you for clarifying. But you, now, may have misunderstood my comment about the free market. Dear friend, we differ at the most fundamental level about the way we want a society to work. I not only don’t believe we have a free market, I also do not believe that the values represented by such a prospect suit my “ideal”. I fully believe that contributing my “wealth” to a government to make society function is a better path and that taxation is a fair way to do this. You don’t. We certainly don’t have to agree. I simply see the free market as benefiting the rich. A military run by the free market, I can hardly even imagine it. I admit, I don’t understand how it could possibly work. The corporate model is one that year after year, requires and demands a more prosperous return. I believe there a NUMEROUS societal functions that should not be run for profit….schools, firefighters, police, social services, prisons, hospitals, etc. Many of these are run for profit, and we hear about the consequences: homes that burn to the ground, patients gouged for their care. I think our broken system is a result of our two polar opinions showing that compromise keeps both parties dissatisfied :) But, thank you for playing! It’s fun to get a chance to put one’s thoughts down in writing, right?! (oh, and as for the idea I would vote for Trump… even if I did believe in a free market, no way! His bigoted, racist, misogynist, arrogant, childish, and impetuous, comments put a nail in that coffin. If Bloomberg had run, maybe I would have voted for him. Maybe. But #nevertrump To me he is a truly indecent, offensive man that is deeply harming the ability of folks like you and I to have a conversation about issues. Makes me sad it’s all so hateful and divisive. Jefferson and Hamilton had divergent ideas about government, but still managed to speak decently to one another. Folks will disagree til the end of time. Compromise is the bedrock of living together as peacefully as possible.)
Tamsen, while I really, genuinely appreciate your detailed and well-thought out comment, I think I…
