Confessions of a Start-up Superhero…

Let’s keep it real. I’m no superhero, but if you read between the lines of the Marvel Universe, you’ll see its connection to the world of digital start-ups.

There’s optimism, and then there’s digital optimism; the latter being a delusional concept created by those whose ‘techy’ experience is virtually non-existent.

Lesson number one: never assume that mastering formulas on Microsoft Excel can unlock the intricacies of a coded world. How naïve of me to ever believe that the complex spreadsheets organizing my life equipped me with the skills to etch out a cyber start-up success story.

Is it time to drop in an acronym yet? Let’s do it… INSYDO. That’s actually the name of my business by the way, but more on that next time. For now, let’s just pretend it’s short for I’ll Never Sugarcoat Yesterday’s Digital Obstacles, because — quite frankly — you need to hear about them.

Not just for my own sanity, but for the tips and tricks that I’d like to share with all the budding ‘startupreneurs’ along the way.

From here on in, we’re in it together. My follow-up posts will relay the truth of a start-up venture: expect the good, the bad and the ugly situations that I’ve had to deal with over the past 18 months.

From brain pills and system crashes to the office re-re-branding and employee theft, there hasn’t been a dull moment. There hasn’t been a peaceful one either… but we got there in the end. Almost. You may have noticed we haven’t launched yet…

“A world of endless possibilities and infinite outcomes. Countless choices define our fate: each choice, each moment, a moment in the ripple of time. Enough ripple, and you change the tide… for the future is never truly set.”
(Charles Xavier, X-Men)

In case you’re wondering why this Marvel reference concludes the article, I’m a lifelong fan. I guess it’s just my thing. Plus, it serves a purpose: if you’re in a hurry, a quick scroll to the quotation will always encapsulate the post when racing against the clock.

Speaking of clocks, unlike my Marvel heroes, I cannot defy the boundaries of time. The countdown to launch is on…
