This is some great preparatory information for every one looking for a freelancer, not only for creating videos but more or less for any micro job or small project.
As a video transcriber, I frequently see employers who just finish their job posting in two or three lines. Once I submit my transcript, there’s lots of instructions to follow up. This becomes more time-consuming and both sides need to put an extra effort to achieve perfection.
This is why I always send a brief sample transcript upfront to know what kind of style they prefer i.e. verbatim, intelligent verbatim or edited transcripts. While video transcription generally demands word-to-word transcripts, while webinar videos, lectures, roundtables or interviews generally settle on cleaned up transcripts so that it becomes more readable or reader-friendly.
I’d also like to emphasize the 4th point Simone made, which is, building up a long-term relationship. It’s mutually beneficial. When you develop a good relationship with your freelancer, you don’t have to provide details every time you ask for work; it’s understood. The work style is understood. The freelancer would know what actually you’re looking for and it saves a lot more time.
Thanks D. Simone Kovacs for creating this post. I couldn’t agree more and hope this becomes a starting guideline for employers looking for freelancers.
