If we wait for the perfect moment, then it will never happen!

When I started documenting my life I thought it was a lot of work and took up a lot of room. But after a while, I had documented my entire life, camping trips, birthdays, and vacations. Now that I look back and read all the things I’ve done in my lifetime, I am stunned at what an amazing person I have become and what an incredible life I have lived. It taught me that documenting myself in everything is important. Whether it be a small action or an epic moment, the story of our life needs to be told. So I created this article to tell you how important it is to document your life.

Record everything! It’s essential to capture every moment of your life. Whether it’s your vacation to multiple destinations in a year or just a relaxing evening at home with your friends, make sure you have a camera with you at all times. Taking pictures along the way will ensure that you do not forget about any of the important events that happen throughout your life.

Moments are all around us. Some are big and some are small. But the moments that matter is the ones we choose to capture. Those moments make up our life story. Capturing them is crucial since it’s the only way we can keep them close to our hearts and revisit those memories that make us who we are today.

Documenting Our Lives Through Photos or Videos Is Special

I believe documenting your life in photos or videos is special in a way that other life events don’t have. A wedding celebration, for example, has a beginning and an end. You’re not likely to remember the beginning because you are busy planning for the big day and then all the work to make it memorable takes over and you are too tired at the end of the night to remember anything clearly.

Photos, videos and other kinds of media are a profound effect on our lives. We keep them to remember nostalgically the past of our life, or because they bring back a very special feeling or memory. They are a personal record for which we have no substitute. They represent who we are and what we believe.

Documenting Our Lives Helps Us Appreciate the Present

You’re never going to know exactly how much you appreciate something until it is gone. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow, or more likely you’ll gradually move further and further away from certain aspects of your life, the way you do with old friendships. But if you keep journals and pictures and things about your relationships with people, then it is always possible to go back and remember when things seemed new and fresh and exciting.

It’s all about moments in life. Today, we don’t notice those moments because they just blend in with the rest of our day. It isn’t until later that we look back on everything that happened that day. Then we realize the power of moments and what we do with them. In every moment, the choice is ours to be happy, sad, rich, bitter, true or untrue.

Memories Last Forever and Can Go a Long Way

I believe that memories last forever and can go a long way. We will always be able to remember something or someone even if we take a photo, draw it or write about it. When we document our lives through photos, videos, notes or drawings, we do more than just record the moments. We leave behind a legacy for future generations to learn about us and remember who we were.

If you ask me, in life, the most precious thing we take for granted is memories. Without it, we’re just a shell of a human being. It is better to have something to remember than nothing, whether it is good or bad. It is also nice to reminisce and relive good memories while forgetting the bad ones.

Share Your Life with Others

Our lives are shaped by events. They set the tone for how we treat others, how we view ourselves and how we view the world. Whether it’s celebrating a parent’s first birthday or taking part in a memorial service, capturing memorable moments can help you remember how to be happy even in the hardest of times.

We are social creatures. Talking with others and finding common ground gives us joy. By capturing those moments, whether, through a photograph or video, you share a part of yourself with the world. Others can see how you view the world around them. It may help others see things from a different perspective or become excited about their own lives as a result of the information you share.

Document Milestones That Matter to You

Document milestones that matter to you. What has brought you success and failure, what has changed your life. Hold on to them for as long as you think is appropriate. When you have time to reflect, you can look back on them. It’s important to look back when things are going well and when things aren’t going so well because it gives you perspective into what is important to you to stay passionate about what you do.

If you’re like me, milestones are incredibly important to you. You want to cherish each one and capture them on video or photograph them for posterity. Maybe your boss gave you a new assignment and you just can’t wait to show them off to your friends and family. Or maybe you just want to capture a special moment with your loved one. Regardless of the occasion, capturing it on video can add a layer of authenticity and emotional value that otherwise cannot be achieved.

Before I finish this article, here are some technical tips for those who intend to document their life through photos or videos.

  • Choose a lightweight camera, such as the Sony ZV1 or Canon G7xIII.
  • Record or capture every life event you find significant. Today it may not be important, but tomorrow it may be.
  • Managing your files folder and sorting by years, months, and dates.
  • Don’t forget to back up all your files to an external hard drive.
  • Recording in 1080p will be fine. You don’t have to record in 4K.
  • Always bring your camera with you.
  • Do not use your phone to record video because it will drain your battery.
  • Shoot from a variety of angles.
  • Develop your photography and videography skills.
  • Upload your photos and videos to YouTube or social media sites. This keeps you motivated and has a purpose when you record or capture your daily life.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and the right pictures are worth much more than that. A picture may be an even better teacher because a picture will never flunk you. Whether you fail or succeed, your pictures or videos will always be there to remind you what went right and what went wrong, so please keep a photo journal or video journal.
