This is my experience of Day-2 at Devfest Bangalore. If you haven’t read Day-1, read it here.

Entry & Registration

I reached the entry by sharp 09:00AM and I saw something that I didn’t expect. The crowd was double than first day of Devfest, which, I realised is because today was Sunday. The registration was seamless because of efforts of the organisers & the volunteers 🙌

Waiting Time

I registered myself and my friends didn’t show up yet — because they’re friends so they have to come late. I waited in the hall full of developers and had some breakfast. Yesterday was Sandwich for breakfast and today we had Tater Tots. It was worth waiting for events with breakfast. My friends arrived, we had tea & played some foosball while waiting.

Connecting the dots from yesterday — totally connected

Ice Breaker

The super-energetic speaker again dusted off our excitement from previous day with a small but fun activity. We synced our claps & pats to “We will rock you” song by queens.

The Kalinga-1 Hall — extremely full

Morning Sessions

Unleash your data & business with Google Cloud

Hosted by Abhirami Sukumaran, this session was all about how companies use data to build better apps for users. She explained various psychology techniques with data brands use to predict user’s behaviour. Then we were introduced to AutoML & Vertex AI for creating enhanced user experience.

Setting up Localisation Infrastructure (ML-Track)

Hosted by Jital Patel, the session started with some data about how much we’re missing out when we don’t localise our applications. Then we explored some general issues while localising an application, such as translation, context, accuracy, plurality, gender, numbering system & direction. In the later part of the session, the google developer gave us a framework which we can follow to ensure the correct localisation for our applicaions. This session was a breeze of fresh air.

Building a Mobile optimised model for Image recognition (ML-Track)

Hosted by Sayak Paul, the session was about building optimised model for mobile devices so that their sizes are small. He explained some of problems that we face if we want to make small models, and gave us approach of tackling them. Teacher-Student models, knowledge distillation & Pruning were some of them. He also showed code for the same.

Lunch

Our minds were information hungry and our tummy were calorie hungry, so we rushed to the backside of the Hotel Lalit. Today we were surprised to have more options, there were multiple vegetable curries, paneer, fish & chicken. Starters were no less of attraction. We chatted about all cool stuff while having delicious lunch. After that we got savory deserts!

Starter & Dessert — couldn’t capture maincourse, was too busy devouring it

Afternoon Sessions

Vertex AI (Cloud-track)

Hosted by Satish VJ, this session had the best presentation of all sessions in devfest. Filled with memes and great example, the session talked about importance & demand of AI/ML which were backed by some solid stats. Then Satish showed us some pre-built ML API tools that we can use in our production which are part of Vertex AI. He also walked us through a pipeline for building models out of data, with some math & charts too. The session gave us mix of ideological & practical knowledge of ML.

After this session, we went out for networking and chatted with Satish VJ where he shared some of his expertise and how to start journey in ML. Then we went into ML-Track where we attended quiz, which was super fun. winners get goodies!

Tea Time

After the quiz we went out for networking and wandering. We met some people from our #Flutter world and had some chit-chat with them. There was also an interactive talk session going on in the waiting hall. We grabbed some snacks & tea, then we took a walk in the backyard of the Hotel Lalit which was totally worth it!

Evening Sessions

Enterprise Data Migration (ML-Track)

Hosted by Pritam Sahoo, The event was all about safe migration of large enterprise databases. Pritam explained about challenges and problems we face when migrating databases. He introduced us with Database Migration Service (DMS) offered by Google Cloud which eases all the process. His confidence about the topic was totally spot on.

Creating Web Apps using App Script (ML-Track)

Hosted by Kiran Jadhav & Shivaji Bodkhe, the session rendered us with so valuable knowledge about automating and creating apps using Google Workspace. The hosts introduced us to the valuable AppScript tool that can be used to develop apps and automate google products such as Drive, Docs, Sheet, Mail, etc which can help us ease our day-to-day repetitive tasks. They Live coded an example for us and showed us an interactive example. Then they took some questions.

The Second day was no less successful than first day and the festival left us with great joy. People who didn’t get goodies on Day-1 got them on Day-2. People who couldn’t make offline to the event attended it online. I’d like to again thank to the organisers (Vishal Pathik Gupta & Ananya), speakers, volunteers and to all the attendees to make these two days few of the memorable days of our lives.

Just Flexing

It was a no-brainerly super successfull event! Both the Cloud-Track and ML-Track were Live on youtube if you want to attend the seminars.

Thanks for reading.
