The Solution For Monetizing Audio Content

There are countless amazing podcasters out there with small but loyal audiences who struggle to make a living. TapeWrite solves this by creating a publishing platform where listeners need to pay to access to premium content.

The problem: in our talks with beta users, we realised that the major hurdle for making a living out of podcasting is how difficult is to monetize them. You need to hit a big number of listeners to be eligible for advertising and when that happens you may need to alienate your listeners with mis-targeted ads.

The solution: people want to pay for quality content, let’s give it to them! In TapeWrite you can now publish beautifully looking (yes, looking), audio content made for being shared. We are building a paywall to be launched with our next release which allows anyone to publish their content as premium. Only users paying a monthly fee of 10 bucks will be able to access that content.

My only goal from the beginning has been to make it easy for the indie publishers to make a living doing what they love.

How do publishers get paid?

We sum up all the premium fees we get, take out the server costs and our cut and the rest we divide it into the amount of hours listened. That is what publishers get paid every month.

On top of that, publishers can refer users to the premium plan with their own discount code. If they do that, they get 10 bucks per referral. Let’s see an example:

If a given month the average premium user listens to 20 hours of audio, you refer one thousand people to TapeWrite premium and 10,000 people listen to 2 hours of your content you get

(10 x 1,0000) + (20,000 x 0,35) = 17,000 USD

You have read correctly. You get 35 cents per hour of premium audio listened, and if the average user listens to less than 20 hours that amount goes up.

How to become a premium publisher? To publish in TapeWrite is already as easy as writing here in Medium. In a few weeks you’ll be able to set any of your tapes as premium and start monetizing them.

Here’s what some of our beta testers say about the new TapeWrite:

The first true attempt to put control and financial motivation in the hands of podcasters while supporting the experience of the users. — Ghost Influence, Social Engineer.

TapeWrite is the easiest way to share your thoughts, and make them more engaging, more accessible. I like reading the tapes others create as much as I enjoy creating my own. — victor marks, producer of the AppleInsider podcast.

If you want to be part of the first batch of premium publishers just head to TapeWrite and start publishing your first tapes. We’ll let you know as soon as the pay wall is out for beta testing. Hit me up here or at borja@tapewrite.com with any questions.

Let’s make you some money so you can make great content.
