In the 1980s, college students invented a drinking game called “Hi, Bob!” while watching syndicated reruns of The Bob Newhart Show, a highly successful sitcom that originally aired from 1972 to 1978. Comedian/actor Bob Newhart (more recently known as The Big Bang Theory’s Professor Proton) played the main character, Bob Hartley, a psychologist in the 70s series. The cast of characters in the show referred to Dr. Hartley by first name quite often in the show. Thus, a drinking game was born.
