Before You Change Careers

Every summer it was the same ritual.

My step dad would drive 3 hours to summer camp, me scared and crying the whole way. I didn’t want to be alone with so many strangers and was sure my parents would leave me once they realized what a burden I’d been!

Two weeks later he’d pick me up and watch my face glisten with tears once more. I didn’t want to say goodbye to my new friends.

Am I unique?

I don’t think so.

Sometimes it feels easier to resist change than to take the step forward. In fact I’d bet that right now you’re resisting an important change in some part of your life.

Dropping the weight? Changing careers? Saving more money? Finding the right man?

Today The NextFem Podcast is live. I ask successful women to share their stories of struggle and redemption and lessons learned on the journey. My vision is to help us as women feel OK wherever we are, normalize the struggles we all experience and provide practical wisdom and inspiration to achieve our dreams.

If you’ve been contemplating a major pivot in your life, you need to hear to my conversations with Jenny Blake and Dorie Clark. These women know change. In fact they’ve both written books about reinvention.

Jenny Blake is a career and business strategist and international speaker, and the author of the forthcoming book, Pivot: Turn What’s Working for You Into What’s Next (Portfolio/Penguin).
