Why 2014 Is My Year Of Authenticity

It’s time to share the good, the bad & the ugly

Sometimes I dread reading my Facebook news feed.

Everybody is so happy, their businesses are thriving, their vacations are lovely and they’re super crafty. Nothing is worse than feeling a little down or guilty, only to scroll through Facebook and see everybody else kicking butt — checking in at the gym, sharing amazing dinner pics and of course announcing that they finally got that book written. BOOM!

I’m really not one to talk, because I’m guilty of ‘shiny posting’ too. I’m quick to post all of the amazing things that happen and hesitant to post anything that hints at insecurity or imperfection, possibly in an effort to prove that MY life is a good one too.

But this year my resolution is to be authentic with my online friends — to share the good, the bad and the ugly. Because you know what? Life is hard. And sometimes it’s not shiny. Sometimes it’s downright dull! Running a business and keeping up with content marketing trends is hard and I don’t have all of the answers. Parenting triplets as they head towards middle school is hard. I’m winging it and I often feel like I don’t know what I’m doing.

What I do know, however, is that we’re ALL trying our best and we’re ALL probably doing better than we think. All we need to do is look a little deeper, past the superficial shiny posts. Because that’s where all the magic happens. And that’s where we’d probably all agree that this life thing is kind of hard sometimes.
