Please read this as if I were a member of your family: your sister, your daughter, or a dear friend. Imagine that the family facing death now is your own.

Hello, my name is Samar. I'm a wife and mother of three young children living in Gaza. Life has been difficult from the beginning, but our home was the only sanctuary where we could shield ourselves from the horrors of war.

Our family

Unfortunately, that home no longer exists after being bombed. We had lived and grown up there for over 18 years, and all our memories were lost with it. Now, we live in a tent under unbearable conditions. We have lost many dear relatives and friends, including many of my husband's cousins. Each loss felt like a hard slap on our faces, and the cycle of loss has not ended.

Our home

We have been displaced more than seven times, narrowly escaping heavy bombings multiple times. Our only dream now is a safe and dignified life for our children, far from the hell we endure every day.

Life in the tent is a nightmare in itself. The scorching heat causes skin and respiratory illnesses for my children, and I see them suffering from jaundice and gastrointestinal infections due to the lack of clean food and drinking water. Fear and terror have become part of their daily lives, and I can't bear to see them live in such conditions.

Living in Gaza is fraught with dangers and challenges that prevent us from achieving any stability or security. As a mother, I dream of a better life for my children, one that guarantees them safety, education, and healthcare. I dream of a future where they can grow up and achieve their dreams.

Today, I reach out to you with a broken heart, asking for your help to raise the funds that will give us a chance to escape Gaza and start a new life in a safe place. The situation here, nine months into the hellish war, is that Gaza's border with Egypt remains closed, and no one can leave unless they pay a large sum of money to escape and save their life. Crossing into Egypt costs about $9,000 per person, and as a family of seven, we cannot afford this amount to reach Egypt. I intend to evacuate my family of seven: myself, my husband (Tareq), my daughters (Sham, Masa, and Wateen), father-in-law (Ziad), and brother-in-law (Mohammed).

With your kind hearts and generous support, we can achieve this dream. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a huge difference in our lives and give my children a chance at a better life.

The funds will be spent as follows:

  • Approximately $9,000 per person to cross the border into Egypt.
  • About $800 per person for visas and plane tickets to our new home.
  • Around $3,000 to cover transaction fees.
  • The remaining funds will be for housing and food for some time.

Please, do not read this story as a tale of tragedy. I am here to ask you to prevent further tragedy and help us start anew. I am here to ask for your help, not your sympathy, to ask you to take action by either donating or sharing this with everyone you know who can help. Please read this with your heart and take action as if this were your family.
