It’s Easter in Sydney, and that means the magical Easter Show! So who better to take, than a blind person…

“Just because you walk with a guidance stick doesn’t mean you are completely blind.”

What people need to realise, is that there is a difference between completely blind and legally blind. The latter gets the luxury of have low vision, which means they can actually see a little bit. Individuals will see at different depths and proximities, they will experience the world often in different colours and are defintely more independent than you think.

On Sunday I had the incredible opportunity of taking a lovely legally blind lady to the Easter Show. She was able to experience patting incredible livestock, tasting delicious food samples, riding exhilarating ferris wheel and going round crazy carousel. What a great time we had!

There is more to watching an event... than simply using your eyes

Not everyone understood how I could take a legally blind lady around the show, with people passing comments that the Easter Show is not a suitable place to bring blind people at all. But I can tell you this much, nothing should stop you if you are blind, and you should give everything a go.

Shows are perfect opportunities for the blind and disabled to get out and about and create new experiences… so don’t let anything stop you!
