CS371p Fall 2019: Week 10
What did you do this past week?
This week was spent mainly on doing my Statistics homework, as well as planning out the Darwin project. Also, I had a Computer Networks exam on Thursday, but it wasn’t so bad since it was an open-notes exam. This week was also my registration week, and although it didn’t go as smoothly as I wanted it to, I was able to get into 3 out of 4 of the classes that I wanted for next semester (wait-listed for Software Engineering).
What’s in your way?
A lot of this week will probably go towards completing Darwin and studying for my Chemistry exam this week. I don’t think I’ve spent my time in the most effective manner I could have, but I still think that I’ve done decent damage on the Darwin project. Now, I need to find time to fit in studying for Chemistry, sometime early this week.
What will you do next week?
As I said above, I’ll probably spend a lot of my time this week working on Darwin, as well as light studying for the Chemistry exam I have this week. I started implementing the project on Saturday, but have run into some issues with my design, so I imagine that a lot of this week will be devoted to working on Darwin, and fixing the problems in my design and code.
What was your experience of the vector implementation? (this question will vary, week to week)
I enjoyed the amount of HackerRank exercises that were thrown this week. Personally, I enjoy doing these exercises as they allow me to better understand what I’m learning during Dr. Downing’s lectures through trial and error. As always, I appreciate how in-depth Dr. Downing takes his lectures, in order to really drive his points home, and help us to better understand why things are implemented the way they are. Also, these lectures help me to have better understanding of things that I use everyday while coding, and help me to understand what’s really going on under the hood.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip of the week would be to start on things early. This is something that I’ve been trying to work on myself. Often times, I tend to put off doing things until later, and they’ll snowball together with the assignments I have later, and I’ll regret not doing them earlier. Starting on assignments early is an easy way to not feel overwhelmed on your more rigorous school weeks.
