White Republican Men and Their Binders

Maine’s white Republican governor Paul LePage said yesterday, “Let me tell you something: Black people come up the highway and they kill Mainers. You ought to look into that!”

To continue to quote the Gov, so we’re all clear on where he stands on this issue:

“Let me tell you this, explain to you, I made the comment that black people are trafficking in our state. Now ever since I said that comment I’ve been collecting every single drug dealer who has been arrested in our state, I don’t ask them to come to Maine and sell their poison, but they come and I will tell you that 90-plus percent of those pictures in my book, and it’s a three-ringed binder, are black and Hispanic people from Waterbury, Connecticut, the Bronx and Brooklyn.”

He’s got a binder, people! Obviously, this Binder has drawn the attention of the ACLU who have requested access to The Binder through the FOAA. A local lawmaker criticized LePage’s racially charged statements and earned himself this voice mail from the Gov. (Listen.):

“Mr. Gattine, this is Gov. Paul Richard LePage. I would like to talk to you about your comments about my being a racist, you **********. I want to talk to you. I want you to prove that I’m a racist. I’ve spent my life helping black people, and you little son-of-a-bitch, socialist **********. You… I need you to… just friggin. I want you to record this and make it public, because I am after you. Thank you.”

He later said he wished it was 1825 so he could shoot him between the eyes. Of course, he just apologized saying this was only a “metaphor” from a “history buff.”

“I am a history buff, and I referenced how political opponents used to call each other out in the 1820s — including Andrew Jackson, the father of the Democratic Party. Obviously, it is illegal today; it was simply a metaphor and I meant no physical harm to Gattine. But I am calling him out to stop giving inflammatory sound bites and get to work to end this crisis that is killing Mainers, destroying families and creating drug-addicted babies, all so the drug dealers Gattine is protecting can make a profit.”

Neither Gattine nor I need to prove he’s racist, nor does anyone else in Maine or the country. LePage generously proves himself to be racist over and over, again. What I’m really interested in, though, is The Binder. What’s with the GOP and Binders? Romney had his binders full of women and now LePage has his binders full of people of color.

It gave me the idea for the following classified ad:

Help Wanted: White, male carpenter to build giant shelf! Shelf must fit human-sized binders containing all women and people of color in USA! No experience necessary. Minimum wage for tipped workers (that’s enough to live on, right?). Must be opposed to Affordable Care Act, immigration and human decency. Willful ignorance a plus. Must be able to travel to Mexican border and work outside; shelf may be built on large wall!
One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
