Punta Cana: When Nature is the Design

Have you been frantically working off your little tail feather and desperately need to get out of Dodge? Well this weekend I did just that as I traveled with friends to the country of Dominican Republic for the first time.

Nestled in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Dominican Republic is located on the island of Hispaniola. Only 3.5 hours away from Charlotte, Punta Cana is a popular Caribbean tourist hotspot on the eastern coast of Dominican Republic. If you are in search of a quick weekend adventure, Punta Cana should definitely be on your bucket list.

On arrival at Punta Cana International Airport, we were greeted by glorious palm trees and sunny skies. The natural topography of Punta Cana includes vegetated mountains, natural waterfalls, underground caves, lagoons and sandbars.

Once we hit the beach, we could fully appreciate the beauty of Punta Cana. With its stunning sandy beaches, crystal blue water and clear skies, all of the cares of the world quickly fade away.

Karina and friends on Snorkeling Excursion

If adventure is your thing, Punta Cana has so many excursions to offer. From parasailing to scuba diving, you can find fun in the sky or in the sea. We personally did a zip lining tour, during which we got to scale a mountain, visually explore the country from very high up in the air and pray that we lived to tell the tale. And we did! In addition, we traveled on a boat out to sea to snorkel at a nearby reef.

If you would rather party the night (and day) away, the accommodating staff at our Riu resort made sure we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Whether it was through their Spanish language, Latin cuisine or invigorating musical sounds of merengue, bachata, and salsa, we were completely immersed in the Dominican culture. If we weren’t dancing, we were relaxing in heated pools, clapping to ongoing pool contests, or lounging on the beach.

I would highly recommend a quick trip to Punta Cana. As with most destinations, be very careful whenever you leave the resort by planning all of your excursions with reputable travel agents. Other than that, allow yourself to enjoy the Dominican culture and to fall in love with the natural beauty of this country.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
