Where Do You Find Design Inspiration?

Interior Design & Home Decor Inspiration

Today I want to talk a little bit about where people draw their inspirations from. For me, my inspiration has and always will come from nature. From the beachy furniture I have in my patio to the greenery all around my house, I love bringing the outdoors in. Whenever I’m feeling a little bit blue, I love to go for a walk and explore. In fact, before every blog I normally like to go for a long walk to focus on the topic that I want to discuss. Design in general is a very broad topic and focus needs to be applied if I plan on getting any point across and alter my blog. In fact, I think I just rambled on a bit. Whoops I should’ve taken a longer walk.

For most designers nature plays a key factor. Behind every great interior designer is a floral designer waiting to break free. The other part about nature that I love are the textures. Without even touching a tree or a stone you can kind of gauge what the feel would be like. Textiles like I discussed yesterday really play into that. Most good designers tend to be amazing translators. They translate the visuals that inspire them and create an atmosphere that relays that message/energy. There are even some designers who focus on the four elements water, air, earth and fire. These elements tend to be a solid foundation for any good design in my opinion.

The four elements might be the perfect place to start. Look around your home or the hotel you’re staying at and see how many elements you see. In my home, I see all four elements. And soon enough the fourth element will be turned on. Of course I’m talking about my fireplace. Next time you design a room or begin any type of home decor project, try breaking it down to these four elements. These four elements represent nature and the foundation of all good design. Our furniture, our textiles and our energy all draw from nature.

Below are some visuals that I feel bring out the best in the four elements. Of course each person favors one of the elements a little bit more than the other. You might have a fiery personality and live for your fireplace like I do. Either way enjoy these photographs and remember to always stay inspired.
