Sources of Traffic to my WordPress Website
I am not an SEO expert, neither I am a master at digital marketing. I am only an average person who is going to share some information with you which you might find useful, this may help you to decide to choose the type of traffic source for your website.
Almost about six months ago on February 2018 I made a website called “IGCSE and IAL Chemistry”. After six months I am getting some traffic to my website from various sources such as Organic search, Social Media and Referral.
You might be wondering which one among the three is most effective and provides an automatic traffic without doing anything repeatedly such as sharing the same content on Facebook repeatedly.
Have a look at the diagram below which I got from the Google Analytics Plugin from my WordPress website.

Organic traffic is the clear winner
What is organic traffic? Organic traffic is the traffic we get from search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. Now the question is why aren’t the rest so good? Because for more than two months I have not shared any of my contents on social medias, hence most people are just finding my contents using the search engines without me having to put much extra effort.
Currently I am getting about 9–14 organic traffic each day, it seems to be increasing very quickly. But this wasn’t the case six months ago, when I first made the website on February 2018, after two months I used to get about only 1–5 organic traffic each day.
Now the question is, from which search engine do I get the most traffic from?

So according to the data, I am getting about 66.1% organic traffic from Google, 25.3% traffic from Bing and only 8.6% traffic from Yahoo.
What is Direct Traffic
What is direct traffic? It this type of traffic the user directly types the URL of the website in their browser and visits it, also known as returning visitors. Now lets have a look how many returning visitor and how many new visitors are there.

So according to the information, I am getting 73.5% new visitors compared to 26.5% returning visitors.
The Battle of the Social Networks
Now here comes the important part trough which social media am I receiving the most traffic? Please do note, I have not shared a single link about my website to any social media for over two months.

I am getting about 67.1% of my social media traffic from pinterest, 16% from YouTube, 3.9% from facebook, 2.6% from Google Plus, 2.6% from Reddit, 1.3% from LinkedIn and only 1.3% from twitter.
My website is only a blog website with contents related to chemistry, I am using Adsense. It is neither an ecommerce website nor an affiliate website. So I cannot spare a lot of time sharing my contents regularly on Facebook, Twitter etc.
Also I cannot share the same contents repeatedly, then it would be marked as spam.
I do have a facebook page, when I shared contents I did get a lot of traffic, but when I stopped sharing the traffic also disappeared. The same case is with twitter, Google Plus and LinkedIn.
But with pinterest, there is anexception, it acts kind of like a search engine. The websites are represented by beautifully designed pins( banners, graphics). When a visitor clicks on a pin he or she is redirected to the website the pin is linked too.
Youtube also contributes a big chunk in my social media traffic as it is also similar to a search engine.
I hope you have found the information about my web traffic useful.
