Jane the Virgin and Hispanic Advertising

On my most recent Netflix binge, I watched Jane The Virgin and because I was watching the episodes back to back, I quickly found something interesting. The show does an impeccable job of targeting US Hispanics . The writers hit the nail on the head with this show by putting one character that speaks only in Spanish and the rest in English, and involving different family setups. All throughout the show, there are many themes that are central to Hispanic culture in the US, and all of those factors combined really makes for an excellent way for advertisers to talk to this demographic. By the end of this year there will be 56 million Hispanics in the US, with trillions of dollars of buying power. Next time you’re watching an episode (or several at at a time), try and pick up on those themes, I believe more shows are going to develop in similar style.
