On March 8th , on the occasion of International Women’s Day, anime news and media website Anime-Planet (Anime-Planet is one of the largest anime news and media websites) published a ranking list of “Top-loved female anime characters”. Mikasa Ackermann from the world famous TV series Attack On Titan took the first place with 29555 votes.

Mikasa Ackerman — Confident, intelligent, skilled, emotionally restrained, protective, caring, steadfast, and physically stronger than fighters her age, and not just her age. It goes without saying that she is fearless. she confronts everyone and everything, especially when the people she loves are in danger.

Mikasa rarely shows emotions, even towards the people she loves. she devoted her life to protect Eren, in exchange for saving her when she was child (of course, not only because of that).

If Eren thinks the world is good, with some exceptions. Mikasa thinks the world is bad, with a few good exceptions. Titans didn’t take her parents away — humans did that . In her opinion, not only the Titans are bad , the world is merciless itself — with the people living in it.

She is guided by the idea: if you are not strong, you will die.

Unlike his comrades, Mikasa doesn’t even know what fear is. she is willing to kill people if necessary, as we saw during The Struggle for Trost (when she threatened a businessman whose rampage was endangering citizens and soldiers, and also that situation was dangerous for Eren ). If she intends to attack, she will not be afraid at the last moment, nor will she change her mind about killing, and if she intends to defend, she will also defend to the last and she will not be afraid even if she dies.

Mikasa always has a good sense of right and wrong and does her best to point Eren in the direction she believes is right.

Although she usually gives the impression of being emotionless and uncompassionate , Mikasa can still empathize in difficult times, Which we can clearly see in the relationship with Armin. As a child, she regularly protected Armin from bullies and always supported him emotionally (and not only emotionally). Mikasa even comforted Armin when she thought Eren was dead , And imagine Mikasa’s emotional background at the moment when she thought eren was dead.

We can consider Mikasa’s most important role as a “protector”, first of all for Eren and then for other people important to her and for the weak ones who need protection. she is a character who almost never starts arguments and fights But he often appears as a settler of arguments and fights.

Mikasa’s character is the personification of strength, created and developed with the motivation to protect the person she loves the most.

Viewers often find it a weakness that Mikasa is too dependent on Eren and that his care goes beyond the limits. However, due to his personal tragedy, this character had such a type of life where there wasn’t even a tiny dot of light. Mikasa found this light and held on to it with all her strength and did not let go, because there was nothing left but this light. she created the best fighting version of herself to preserve this very emotion and this one real and intimate connection. For this and other reasons, she eliminated all emotions that would prevent him from achieving this goal.

Like Eren, Mikasa’s story is also about dealing with failure.

her first failure to protect Eren led him to anger and one might say to depression. As the story progresses, she learns to turn her pain into strength and her mistakes into lessons that grow her not only as a fighter, but also as a good person.

Although Mikasa’s life has shown perhaps the ugliest side of humanity, Mikasa still found and saw light, beauty and hope, all of them in one person — Eren. Thanks to Eren, she showed Mikasa that not all people are bad and that protecting them and fighting for peace is important to humanity.

Mikasa had every reason to despise the world, but she didn’t. Personal strength, decisiveness and intellectualism, that’s what this character combines and that’s why she became one of the outstanding faces in anime history.

Mikasa is a character who best understands the importance of actions, not words, which is ultimately the most important thing.
