  1. Create an outline or follow a plan to restore the bike

If the motorcycle is old, have an idea of what year, make and model it is to start researching parts before they are needed. Be sure that the bike is in excellent condition.

2. Decide what kind of motorcycle restoration you want to do

If you are starting with a new or used bike, take it to a mechanic for inspection and advice; what you discover might surprise you. If the owner of your dream machine has written on it or made notes about it, you can also use this information to decide on the restoration you want.

3. Start gathering parts if they are not already available

This will quickly help you narrow your focus. Check out used part sites and ask questions of people in the know. Most of all, try to do this as economically as possible. You will be surprised how many parts that are not worth restoring can bring you good money if you sell them.

4. Begin research on the motorcycle itself

Start reading up on the history of the make and model before taking it in for an inspection. Know what is needed to get it running well, and be prepared with a full tank of gas when it comes in. ensure the bike you have has a running or an engine that can be restored. Immediately you get a bike to fix it; the first thing is to restart the engine.

5. Find a restorer or mechanic who’s experienced restoring specific makes and models

The best mechanics do not work on all makes and models. Get recommendations from trusted friends or motorcycle clubs. Look at their previous work and ask questions. Always remember to look at the specific parts you are having replaced.

Once you have done these things, enjoy your bike as it was meant to ride and watch for more restoration projects. If you need a mechanic or restorer, Taverner Motorsports got you. Contact Taverner Motorsports or visit their website for more details about their work.
