Week 8 & 9: Illustrator

For the eighth week of the project, we had to use Adobe Illustrator to create 10 different photo templates. 5 of them for prospective students aged 16 to 18 and 5 for overseas visitors aged 25–40 and above.

We also had to make use of colored vector background downloaded online. For some of our templates, we were also instructed to make use of the “Image Trace” function in Illustrator, which involved tracing out an image in Illustrator and incorporating it into the template.

The main challenge I faced in this week’s project wasn’t so much the drawing/sketching/tracing, rather it was thinking of how to design the templates. Since the templates were for 2 different groups of people, I had to design the templates such that they would be relevant for the specific groups. It was difficult as I would constantly have to decide whether a certain template was more suitable for the students or the visitors and there were many times when I would start out by creating a template for one group and then feel like it would be more suitable for the other group.

Also, I did not know exactly how to design the templates. Thus, I had to search online for different sources to get an idea of how to design my templates.

In conclusion, I feel that while my sketching/drawing skills have gotten better over the course of this project, I am still trying to improve my creativity and think of different ways to come up with designs and sketches in both Photoshop and Illustrator.
