Engagement

This afternoon I asked Leandra if she’d like to marry me. “I’d like that very much, Taylor,” she said.

So, we’re getting hitched!

I plan on writing more about this moment (and related matters) later, but for now I’ll just note a few things.

For starters, I’ve always had very mixed feelings about marriage. I never thought I needed some sort of official imprimatur associated with my relationship status — assuming I was lucky enough to meet my life partner.

And, when Leandra and her kids asked me to be part of their family several months ago, we were clearly on the serious monogamous relationship (without getting married) course; actually, we had been on that course for some time. Besides, I have tons of respect for people who enter into lifelong partnerships and never marry.

However, I see more clearly that — for reasons I won’t go into now — getting married makes more sense and is the right thing to do. Leandra and I are supposed to be married.

Ocean and Amaranth were the first ones we told. Then we shared the information with Mom and Dad. I also posted something on Instagram.

Leandra and I have been forever teammates for some time and today’s developments certainly don’t change the level of commitment we have for each other, or our shared vision for what we are building together.

I’m still kind of shocked, though so excited and truly happy.
