Great piece, definitely hear you on the Nazi references. Since Nazi analogies are cliche and generally dismissed as reactionary I like to use Italian fascism when discussing Trumpism. It is also more accurate because, although still racist, Italian fascism wasn’t explicitly genocidal towards social groups and they believed in assimilation to a degree. Italian fascists may have scapegoated groups, as politics rooted in nationalism tend to do, but it wasn’t literally written into their politics that group X needs exterminated, although they probably would have loved to do this to Slavic people. I also use the term “proto-fascist” since Trumpism isnt explicitly fascist it just has all of the ingredients to make fascism, strong nationalism, militarism, ultra-capitalist and corporatist economic policies, belief in “a natural order”; especially regarding gender and sexuality, I could go on… Again great work demonstrating these tendencies we see with Trump and his ilk.
