Oppression can be seen in men and women but in different ways. Oppression is identified in men of the inability to cry and in women who are assumed to be more sensitive. The root of oppression come from pressure and relates to the pressures in society. An example that was brought up is sexual activity in young women. Either they are judged for being sexually active or for not being sexually active. Another pressure in society is brought up when women don’t care about themselves they are seen as “unfeminine”. These issues are not always seen and this is brought up in the bird cage analysis and if you look closely or far away you cannot see certain aspects. Another issue that was brought up was males holding open doors for females. This sends the message that women are incapable. Something that was seen as a nice gesture and people were raised to do is now seen as offensive because of society changing.

In white privilege the author compared white privilege to male privilege as being something that is unseen and society acts like it is not there. People overlook that males have more privileges than females and that is how our society is with race too. Oppressiveness is also not seen from the same perspective in all women because a white women’s perspective is different than a women of color. The author found a list of things that was brought to their attention of daily activities that most white people overlook. Some of the issues were white people know they do not need to worry about their neighbors judging them without knowing them, being able to see their own race on TV all the time or in magazines. White people can walk around and shop alone without worry and in public they do not have to be afraid of being mistreated because of their race. Another issue that stood out to me was white people are able to have the luxury of getting band aids that most match their skin color compared to people of color.

In the article of age, race, class and sex the first thing the author goes over is how in society oppressed people have the responsibility of teacher the oppressor their mistakes. People depend on this in different situations it is the same with women to men, black to third world countries and with lesbian to gay people to heterosexual. Another issue that was brought up is the mythical norm of “that’s not me’. Where people do not classify themselves in a group when they are clearly in it. It is seen when white women ignore their built in privileges. They focus on their problems from a white women’s perspective and it is not seen as the same issues from a women of colors perspective. This issue also pertains to a black woman who is a feminist to where they have the same issues as white women feminist but cannot relate from the same perspective.

The identity factors that complicate the issue are mainly from race and sex. This is being brought up in the oppression article where women have more pressures in society and expectations to be oppressed. In the white privilege article these issues are being brought up more with race and the areas that white people overlook daily issues where white people are more privileged. In the age, race, class and sex article the identity factor issues that are brought up are mainly with race and sex. To the point where there are sex issues it is not relatable to people of different races who are having the same issues.
