I read, years ago, an article by a climate scientist saying that the Earth was fine. We need not worry about it. If conditions reach the point where the climate changes, the Earth will simply react to the climate change. Humans may well disappear and maybe other forms of life will succeed where we did not.

So, for him, there is sadness for humans, potentially, but none for the Earth. It will simply go on being Earth and not worry about who is on its surface.
