The brain of any computer system is the central processing unit (CPU). The CPU is the part of the computer that interprets and carries out the instructions given to it. It is the most important part of the computer, as without it the computer would not be able to function.

The CPU is made up of two parts, the control unit and the arithmetic logic unit (ALU). The control unit is responsible for fetching and decoding instructions, while the ALU carries out the actual execution of the instructions.
