A warning from RasulAllah ﷺ to all traders

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ‎ said about traders:

Traders will be gathered on the day of judgement as transgressors except those who feared Allah, were righteous, and spoke the truth.
-Tirmidhi and Ibn Maja

It is important to note that the Prophet ﷺ‎ makes a general statement about all transgressors being transgressors first and then adding exceptions about those who would be saved. This shows the gravity of the situation traders find themselves in.

The scholars mention that the word trader should be taken in a more general meaning where by everybody involved in any sort of transaction would fall in this category. In modern terms, if we are selling products or services, directly to the consumer or indirectly this hadith would apply to us.

This means that, for example:

  1. Doctors are transgressors if they are not honest with their patients or are negligent
  2. Engineers are transgressors if they are not honest about the status of their projects
  3. Salesmen are transgressors if they are not honest about their product
  4. Anybody who gets a full salary but slacks off at work is a transgressor

According to a hadith about market places:

Abu Huraira (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The most beloved of places to Allah are the mosques, and the most hated places to Allah are the markets.”
-Sahih Muslim

The reason for this is obvious. Market places are places of deception, greed, lies and exploitation and therefore are hated by Allah SWT.

Next time we head to work, lets remember this hadith of our beloved Rasul Allah ﷺ and heed to this warning.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
