How I.AM.GIA is Using Instagram in the Best Way

I.AM.GIA is a trendy clothing brand that can be seen on the backs of all kinds of stars such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and many others. The company gained even more momentum after the release of the popular young adult show Euphoria, in which one of the main characters can be seen wearing a stylish matching purple set.

There are no physical I.AM.GIA stores currently in existence, although they do sell some of their clothing items through retail stores such as Nordstrom Rack, Urban Outfitters, Revolve and others. I.AM.GIA also has their own website (https://iamgia.com/) which is well laid out, and where customers can shop, see look-books, contact the company and find links to the company’s socials.

There are many social media platforms available, yet I.AM.GIA only uses Instagram, but this seems to be enough for them. Many people consider them solely an Instagram brand because there is the option of shopping the clothing on the app. As well, many people found the company through stars tagging I.AM.GIA in their outfit photos. The company’s Instagram has accumulated over 854 thousand followers and they follow nobody back.

The instagram page does many things right. For example, their Instagram handle is simply iamgia, making it easily recognizable and easily found when looking for the brand. Their display picture is simply their logo and they have a bio that has all the information necessary to shop the brand and contact them without overloading the costumer. I.AM.GIA also posts stories that display short videos or photos of their clothing collections. Their feed is very aesthetically pleasing. Each photo seems to fit together in terms of colours and editing techniques and shows very fashionable outfits.

Another thing the company does very well is word of mouth advertising using social media. Because so many stars are seen wearing the clothing, many people want to buy the outfits themselves and a number of these people do their own hauls and reviews on YouTube. This offers free advertising for the company and although they don’t have their own YouTube account, their presence is known all over that platform and many others. Another way they have excelled in free advertising is by reposting other peoples’ instagram photos of them wearing the brand’s clothing. By doing this, they are essentially creating free ads and marketing campaigns for themselves without spending a dime on photographers and models. When seeing that people are reposted and tagged, others may be more inclined to tag the brand in hopes of their pictures getting reposted which in turn, spreads awareness of the brand.

Although they do all of this, they could do more. Many customers ask questions in the comment sections of photos and yet no one answers them. These questions are regarding clothing sizes, restocks, where to find certain deals mentioned in captions on the website and more. If the company answered these comments, or even acknowledged other comments in the form of a like, perhaps they would have even more sales. Moreover, they could be on more social media platforms. For example, Twitter is one of the most popular social media apps in existence and I.AM.GIA could use it to announce new collections, post photos, tag customers or celebrities wearing their clothing and direct people to their Instagram. Snapchat is incredibly popular as well. They could have exclusive deals on posted stories or show videos of models wearing clothing for sale.

Although I.AM.GIA could do more, they seem to be doing better than other leading brands in the same area in terms of their social media. Take for example, Brandy Melville. They do post nice photos, however they tend to only post non-diverse, skinny girls, creating an angry comment section.

I personally found the clothing brand through Instagram, and I want every piece of clothing posted, so obviously they are doing something right in terms of their marketing their brand through social media.
