New England Climate Outlook: Warmth May Continue this Fall and Winter

It looks like warmth will linger in New England this fall and winter, according to federal agencies.

“Warmer than average conditions are favored” in December through February in New England, the National Weather Service Boston office tweeted.

It would be the second winter in a row for La Niña, when sea surface temperatures are cooler-than-average in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean, according to NOAA. La Niña affects global and United States climate patterns.

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center winter outlook does not project seasonal snowfall accumulations. That’s because snow forecasts are generally not predictable more than seven days in advance, according to a NOAA news release.
