Third Warmest Winter on Record in the Contiguous U.S.

It may not have felt warmer than normal where you live, but meteorological winter was the third warmest on record in the lower 48 states, according to the National Centers for Environmental Information.

In the Northeast, 24 of the 35 major climate sites had below-normal snowfall, but coastal areas including eastern Massachusetts saw as much as an 18-inch surplus in locations such as southeastern New Jersey, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center.
