Recommending places based on a destination which is most likely already a place you’ve chosen to go ? I really don’t get it. And even less why Uber would like to enter the places recommendation game.

There are already important players with way more data (Google, Yelp, Foursquare or even Facebook). Of course Uber knows where its users are going (and can probably deduct where they are leaving from) but I don’t believe that’s enough data to build a pertinent places recommendation tool.
