Dear Reader,

In response to the Reciprocal Nature Prompt issued by Sahil Patel, I have decided to write an article about the spring season. In this article, I will present my thoughts about lessons that can be clear concerning seasons where local usage of the term varies with respect to climate, culture, and customs.

For example, when it is spring in the Northern Hemisphere it is autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. It is the springtime of the year when we have days and nights that are about 12 hours long. The daytime hours increase and the nighttime decreases as the spring season moves toward the summer season.

Spring and springtime refer to the season of course but can also give us ideas of rebirth, renewal, and regrowth. My wife and I live in a subtropical environment in the Florida panhandle.

We don’t have a dry or wet season per se, but we do have a hurricane season each year that lasts much too long. It starts in June and does not end until November. Please note that spring for the United States and the United Kingdom starts in March and lasts through May.

In Australia and New Zealand, spring starts in September and ends in December. In Ireland, spring begins in February and lasts through April. One place where the start of spring varies is in Sweden.

For the Swedes, the beginning of spring is the first occasion on which the average 24-hour temperature exceeds 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius. In Brazil, the spring happens from September through November.

In Persian culture, the first day of spring is the first day of the first month (called Farvardin). It starts on 20 or 21 March. The traditional Chinese calendar shows the spring season lasting from the first days of February and ending in the first days of May.

The Celtic tradition is based on daylight and the strength of the noonday sun. Spring begins in the first days of February and continues until the first days of May. In India, the spring season is the months of March and April with an average…
