Purple Door Coffee

I don’t even know where to start when it comes to Purple Door Coffee. I often search Google Maps to find a new spot to try. In the near future, I’ll be producing some food specific blogs. Finding a few awesome coffee shops was definitely on my to-do list. That’s when this charming coffee shop came across my screen.

After emailing the company, I was quickly connected with Phil. We set up a date for me to stop in for a visit. Upon my arrival, the first thing I noticed was the purple door. The color pop definitely leaves no question as to your location. I was immediately greeted with a smile. Once we started the conversation, I knew that I was in for much more than just great coffee. I was able to learn about the foundation of the company. An added bonus was chatting with one of Purple Door Coffee’s star employees, Sateva!

The majority of the employees are formerly homeless youth and young adults. The Purple Door is not only a coffee shop but an employment program. It teaches its participants the ends and outs of professional development. Individuals have the opportunity to rebuild their professional and financial lives. This was the case with Sateva. She is currently in management training and now has the ability to provide financially for her budding family.

Purple Door Coffee is the definition of a socially responsible business. They serve the Five Points community from the inside out! I’m pretty bummed that it’s taken me so long to stumble upon this jewel. But as they say, “better late than never.” Oh, and might I add that my vanilla ice latte was amazing. They use their own vanilla! You can have your coffee brewed in house or purchase Purple Door blends from home brewing.

The Purple Door Coffee mission is, “to reclaim and sustain the lives of homeless youth and young adults through supportive and meaningful employment.” If you have any interest in donating funds to contribute to the amazing work the Purple Door Coffee team is doing click here. A huge thank you to Phil and Sateva for sharing their stories with me! I’ll be back soon for a return visit.
