TL;DR

Waltonchain

General traceability for everything on blockchain, based on cutting edge RFID technology.

TE-FOOD

Specified traceability for livestock and fresh food on blockchain, based on cost effective technology for emerging markets.

Short decription

Waltonchain

IOT Ecosystem to incorporate physical assets into the blockchain to track property rights in the real world using RFID tags.

TE-FOOD

Fresh food supply and quality ecosystem involving supply chain companies, consumers, and authorities.

Traction

Waltonchain

  • Development phase
  • Pilot project for the clothing industry planned for September, 2018.

TE-FOOD

  • More than 6000 business customers, daily 400,000 transactions, serving 30 million consumers
  • Consumer app: 50,000 downloads, B2B app: 10,000 downloads on Google Play

User focus

Waltonchain

Supply chain companies, consumers(?)

TE-FOOD

Supply chain companies, governments/authorities, consumers

Markets

Waltonchain

Currently China, later international

TE-FOOD

Emerging countries

Product focus

Waltonchain

First clothing, later any other product type

Our experience shows that RFID is a no go in most cases in the fresh food industry (even in the developed countries), because of the tag price is ~10–15 times higher than QR codes, and requires additional hardware to read/write the tags.

How the token is used

Both solution planned separate blockchains for the financial transactions, and for the traceability ledger transactions. In Waltonchain’s solution, multiple sub-chains can serve to store traceability data. If we understood right, even financial data with custom tokens can be operated on the sub-chains.

Waltonchain

  • Just like Ethereum users pay gas price for transactions, supply chain participants will need to pay by WTC for transactions to use Waltonchain’s blockchain traceability ledger.

TE-FOOD

  • Just like Ethereum users pay gas price for transactions, supply chain participants will need to pay by TECoins for transactions to use TE-FOOD’s blockchain traceability ledger.
  • Supply chain companies can buy/sell value added information from/to each other (e.g. deeper complementary information on the food supply).
  • Consumers get TECoins as reward for using our consumer mobile app in retail, reading the QR code and viewing the food history, so the system incentives conscious consumer behavior.

Potential cooperation

Short term: not likely, due to the different product segments and target market. TE-FOOD’s technology is not suitable to track clothing or electronics, while Waltonchain’s technology is not suitable to track livestock and fresh food products.
