OPEN PATENT LICENSING:
Twitter’s Innovator’s Patent Agreement.

Come learn about open patent licensing on March 3 at General Assembly in NYC. Among others, we will discuss Twitter’s Innovator’s Patent Agreement (“IPA”).

The IPA is is like the ‘two-man rule’ security systems installed in early nuclear weapons: “If the United States went to war, two people would be necessary to unlock a nuclear weapon, each of them provided with half the code.” With the IPA, two people are required to launch a patent lawsuit: (1) the owner and (2) the inventor. This reduces the risk of frivolous patent litigation because inventors — those nerdy engineers — are often reluctant to throw the switch on a frivolous lawsuit.
