What’s mine is yours — a joint finances battle

We also do a hybrid approach but slightly differently. We came up with a budget that covers what we consider to be our joint expenses, which seems similar to yours. We figured out how much we’d need to cover that per month, and we each contribute to the joint expenses proportionally (my husband makes 55% of our household income, I make 45%, so we each cover that percentage). We also contribute a set amount into a joint travel savings and a joint “general” savings account. Whatever’s left over from each of our incomes goes into our separate checking accounts (personal care, shopping, hobbies, lunch at the office, socializing independently, etc.).
