Avoiding a Faux-Life: Embracing the Spiritual Battlefield

If you are like me, there is always something to do. Meetings to attend, to-dos to update, documents to review, presentations to prepare (sometimes prepared overnight or with last minute inspiration), market runs, customers to attend to, and all of the things in the never ending cycle of ‘busy-ness’.

Many times, you’ve slied your quiet time, including the 15 minutes you plan to set aside during your break time. In the end, you’ll just mutter some words in tongues and breeze off to the next call of duty. You may have even stayed up late to watch a movie or binge on a series, but you’ve not binged on your Bible or stayed up to listen to a message you missed like that. You may even have hustled to get fuel to watch one sunday evening premier league, but you would rather use mixlr to stream and doze through a prayer meeting.

Wait, wait…I’m not throwing shades. I’m just analyzing something.

I heard that this life is a battlefield, and that soft life is ‘faux-life’. I heard that the realm of the spirit is the place where things really happen, unlike the physical realm that has been tainted by an enemy and causes men to see as with a veil. This is why we think that placing premium on the natural over the spiritual is gain. This battle is the battle for the soul; a battle to fill it up with goods either from God or from the enemy. Unfortunately, many are caught up in the ‘busy-ness’ that the enemy has filled this life with and make little or no time for God.

The soul can be likened to a container and the tools for loading it are understanding, obedience, leadings. The measure to which it is loaded with substances is the measure of its weight. The type of substances it is filled with, whether they are of God or of the enemy, determines to whom it belongs. The container that has been best used and will receive a full reward is one that has submitted to being filled with the complete measure of the stature of fullness of the properties of God.

If you are like me, by now, you would have made up your mind to be more intentional about acquiring the things of God.
