The True Vegetarian/Vegan Lifestyle

Vegetarianism is a very controversial topic that disorient’s people’s decisions. Everyone knows the moral side of it but can’t quite conquer or even be convinced of the transition. Those of us that do, have the will power and are aiming to improve our planet with all of the benefits that come along such as: reducing excess water usage, saving animals, and countless others. Yet, there’s another thing we don’t often talk or hear about.

Vegetarianism and veganism isn’t only about your diet. There are many commercial products made with animal biproducts. These are overlooked by consumers as it’s not something you consciously think about. So let’s join together and make sure to pay attention to everything you buy — not only what you eat.

The main category I’m talking about is beauty, skincare and fashion. This includes a variation of products from make-up to shampoos to clothing. Kudos to the people that pay attention to the brands that display “not tested on animals” or “cruelty free” labels. This is a great start. Although, a product may not have been tested on an animal and could still contain some ingredients that are questionable. I’m not saying this is common, I would trust the brands that support animals but it’s not all we should be looking out for. Before you buy, check for these animal biproducts that are commonly featured in cosmetics:
Cochineal dye, guanine, tallow, squalene, ambergris, lanolin, and estrogen... to name a few.

It’s very important if you are committing to the lifestyle to do your research and make sure you are supporting the right companies. This sounds overwhelming to many because it’s such a large flip in life when you are used to purchasing from your trusted sources. To that I say, don’t let the pressure take over. You do the best that you can and take as long of a transition as you need. Nobody goes vegetarian in a day and they certainly don’t reverse their habits immediately. It’s hard to do. That’s how we know that it’s important.

So I hope next time you go shopping you take into consideration what went into the production of it. For those curious, here is a list of animal loving, cruelty-free brands to purchase from. Happy shopping and good luck!
