What have we been reading this week?

1) Zambian start-up Mangwee launches payments platform — Lusaka Times

Operating in a country where “40 per cent of Zambians were excluded from the formal financial sector”, Mangwee, one of our portfolio fintech start-ups are contributing to financial inclusion through their online payment wallet. Read about it here:

2) The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2018

This report “reviews progress in third year of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The report states that the proportion of the world’s families living on less than $1.90 per day has reduced from 26.9% in 2000 to 9.2% in 2017. 3) Kenya’s Chanjo Plus targets full immunisation of African children — Disrupt Africa

4) The Mobile Economy, Sub-Saharan Africa 2018 — GSMA report

5) Theresa May pledges Africa investment boost after Brexit — BBC News

Following her first trip to Africa as UK Prime Minister, Theresa May says that there will be a change in aid spending, “to focus on long term economic and security challenges rather than short term poverty reduction”. Read more in the BBC’s article below:
