Welcome to Wikinae’s Korean Slang #15

It’s FriYay! What are your plans for this evening?
On Friday nights, Koreans would usually go out for a drink or catch up with their loved ones 🔥

In today’s post, let’s find out how Koreans say “FriYay”!

✔ 불금 is short for ‘불타는 금요일’ which means ‘FriYay’ or ‘T.G.I.F. (Thank God It’s Friday)’.

The literal translation is ‘hot/burning Friday’.

In the early 2000s, the five-day work week was implemented in Korea, allowing Koreans to take a break during the weekend. This made Friday a symbolic day for many workers and students.

It’s
FriYay, let’s grab a beer tonight!
B: 좋아!
I’d love to!

“오늘 불금인데 어디 가세요?” means “It’s FriYay, are you going anywhere?”
