Vote Explanation for H.J.Res. 99 — Making further continuing appropriations for fiscal year 2017, and for other purposes

I voted in support of H.J.Res. 99, which extends for one week — through May 5, 2017 — the current funding levels for all government operations. Let me be clear, these short-term patches are NOT how Congress should be funding the federal government. This bill is yet another example of congressional Republican leadership’s inability to work in a bipartisan way to pass an annual budget.

Funding the government is a fundamental responsibility of Congress. While I do not believe that that these short-term patches are in our national interest, they are far better than a government shutdown.
